The Public Lecture on Music & Brain was held on January 12, 2025, at the Tsinghua Southeast Asia Center. Organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, the Ministry of Culture, and Tsinghua University, the event explored the connection between music and neuroscience, highlighting its effects on cognitive function, emotional well-being, and health. The lecture attracted 217 onsite participants and over 1,700 online viewers from diverse backgrounds, including government officials, academics, and business representatives from Indonesia and China. Key speakers included Prof. Xiaoqin Wang from Tsinghua University and Vice Ministers Prof. Stella Christie and H.E. Giring Ganesha. The session featured discussions on how music influences brain functions, a scientific talk, and live performances, including an Indonesian song and a Chinese music piece with performers wearing fNIRS devices to measure brain activity. With a blend of science and culture, the event successfully deepened public understanding of music’s impact on the brain and inspired interdisciplinary collaboration for future research and applications in education and mental health.
