2025 Sustainable Innovation Workshop Highlights Breakthroughs in Optical Computing
The 2025 Sustainable Innovation Workshop: Subject I – Optical Computing brought together researchers, students, and industry professionals for two days of in-depth exploration into the future of computing technology. Held at the Malajah Room, Tsinghua Southeast Asia Center in the beautiful Kura Kura Bali SEZ, the event was organized by the Department of Electronic Engineerings, Tsinghua University as part of their commitment to fostering sustainable and cutting-edge innovation across Southeast Asia.
Day 1 kicked off with an opening ceremony, setting a collaborative and forward-looking tone for the workshop. The day featured two invited talks delivered by leading experts in the field, offering fresh perspectives on optical computing and its role in addressing energy efficiency and data processing challenges. To complement the technical sessions, participants were invited to unwind with a refreshing Island Tour to the Surf Surf by the Waves, led by the Kura Kura Bali team. This unique experience allowed attendees to explore the natural beauty of the island while connecting informally with fellow innovators and researchers. And then the activity contin A dynamic Roundtable Forum followed, where panelists and participants engaged in thought-provoking discussions about the future potential of photonics-based computing technologies.
Day 2 continued with another set of invited talks, providing deeper insights into real-world applications and research developments in optical computing. The focus then shifted to the voices of emerging talents during the Undergraduate Student Sessions, where three groups of students presented their research findings. These sessions highlighted the next generation’s creativity, technical understanding, and passion for sustainable technological solutions.
The workshop wrapped up with the Best Student Presentation Ceremony, honoring the most outstanding undergraduate project. Beyond showcasing technological advances, the event succeeded in building bridges between academia, industry, and youth innovation—paving the way for optical computing to play a pivotal role in the global sustainability movement.
