11 April 2025 – Tsinghua SEA, Bali
The Tsinghua Southeast Asia Center (Tsinghua SEA) recently hosted a webinar titled “Smart Energy, Smarter Cities: The Digital Future for a Smarter, Greener World” as part of its Happy Digital X (HDX) initiative. This session explored how digital transformation is reshaping energy infrastructure and city development, aiming to build cleaner, more sustainable, and people-centered urban environments. The event brought together regional changemakers from government, academia, business, and civil society to exchange ideas and spark cross-sector collaboration.
A keynote presentation by Dr. William Sabandar highlighted the importance of smart and sustainable mobility systems, digital platforms, and public-private partnerships in regenerating urban spaces. Drawing from his leadership in projects such as MRT Jakarta, the new capital city (IKN), and the JakMenyala movement, he provided real-world perspectives on transforming cities through integrated and innovative approaches. His examples showcased how transit-oriented development and community-driven design can support greener and more resilient cities.
The webinar also served as the first introduction to the upcoming Happy Digital X (HDX) program—a platform designed to empower transformative leaders in digital innovation and urban sustainability. Participants were introduced to HDX’s values, goals, and thematic focus areas, including energy, mobility, and human-centered development. The event fostered early engagement among stakeholders who share a vision of smarter cities powered by inclusive, forward-thinking strategies.
Feedback from the session was overwhelmingly positive, with participants expressing strong interest in continued involvement with the HDX community. The webinar not only offered valuable insights and inspiration for action but also laid the foundation for a growing regional network committed to creating smarter, greener, and more connected cities for the future.
